Wonder Woman 2017
"What one does when faced with the truth is more difficult than you think.
- Diana Prince, Wonder Woman"Hatred is not a creative force, love alone creates.”
-St. Maximilian Kolbe
Few films require as little preamble as Wonder Woman. It is seemingly effortless in its enthusiasm, and dare I say wonder. The film exudes a strength with an infectious love for life, and the people in it. Wonder Woman is never boastful of these attributes, on the contrary, it uses them to amplify others rather than itself. In a phrase, the film embodies Wonder Woman as person through and through.
There is an ever present joy that shines through every frame of Wonder Woman. It is a joy full of hope, optimism and the knowledge of every human being's innate dignity. Yet this joy is not naïve, it is a hopefulness that is rooted in reality. The reality of the horrors of war, and the seeming contradictions inherent in free will and its many daily choices.
This is the film's greatest strength. It's uncanny ability to interweave the trustful joy of a child with a moving examination of free will and choice. This World War I superhero morality tale is seemingly punching above its weight class. Though it succeeds where many would fail. Wonder Woman is an eloquent balance of reality and escapism. One that comes together to form an exhilarating, entertaining whole.
Wonder Women is a journey well worth your time. A journey that is best experienced without much interference. Director Patty Jenkins and her team have crafted Diana Prince's growth into Wonder Woman, with joy and enthralling wonder. it is an engaging, and meaningful look at the power of free will, love and the dignity they call us towards.
Rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action, and some suggestive content
I found Wonder Woman to be entertaining, visually enthralling, meaningful and thought-provoking. I hope in some way you do too.
