Immortals of Aveum 2023

 “You cannot win an Ever-war!”


Immortals of Aveum cannot really be encapsulated. It is a video game that at first glance seems easily definable, a first person action shooter with magic as its primary means of combat. Though this magic plays a far greater role than just being ammunition for your weapons. Magic is the lifeblood of Aveum. It is the spoke on which the entire story hangs. When it comes to it, it is surprising that this game works as well as it does. From its magic system to its apparent devil may care attitudes of its characters, immortals of Aveum’s anti-war message seems, at first to contradict itself. Though ultimately it works beautifully. Bringing together story, gameplay and character in such a way that it never overwhelms. Instead, It tries to deepen our appreciation for the nuances and pitfalls of war and conflict
Immortals isn't the first game to accept this challenge and it certainly will not be the last. It is however, one of the most unique to foray into these waters. This first-person shooter propels the genre in interesting directions. Combining it with RPG progression systems in fascinating and exhilarating ways. Yet Immortals of Aveun never forgets its core of fast-paced first-person combat. It's not perfect to be sure, but is a heartfelt and meaningful exploration of a stalwart gaming genre. It is also a player journey that sees far more victories in its gameplay mechanic explorations than failures. When taken as a whole, Immortals of Aveum succeeds because it is willing to explore. As you may expect it offers far more avenues into the nuances of first-person action in the process.
Perhaps that is the valor of Ascendant Studios. The entire development team brings together seemingly disparate elements to form a wonderfully cohesive whole. The studio Exceeds its mandate of shoot first, ask questions later, by asking us the question. What is war, and do we have the ability and desire to stop it.
