Wish 2023

 “So I make this wish to have something more for us than this.”


I am certain this wasn't planned. Though there is a real joy that happens when the unexpected comes together.
    If Waking Sleeping Beauty was Disney's reminder of the necessity of fortitude, then Wish is their clarion call to action. The film conveys a love for animation that is equal parts nostalgic and new.
Nostalgia has seemingly become a call sign for the film going public. Indicating a film's potential to be as money grabbing as possible. Here, that belief is subverted. Nostalgia here is the lens by which we are able to gaze into the Disney animation process.

“When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are.”

This famous Disney adage is brought home in Wish with such love and clarity that it almost seems false. Yet surprisingly it isn't. This film dives deep into the creative heart, asking us the question. Who are you, and how can I help you achieve that truth inside you? I believe that there is no falsity here. Wish doesn't ask us to forget the hardships in life. Instead it asks us to look up, for guidance in the journey that we know we are meant to take.

I found Wish to be enjoyable, meaningful and inspiring. I hope in some way you do too.
