Fallout, season 2 (2025- 2026)

Fallout, season 2 (2025-2026)

“And just to ask the question, would it help if I said please?”

“Guess I'm just trying to lead by example.”

“So give me the drugs.”
-Fallout, season 2

What is choice? What is control? Both of these motivating factors of human experience indicate a philosophical dilemma when it comes to interactivity, and its relationship with authorial intent. In other words, linear narratives have a difficult time coalescing effectively with a person's independence. Though, what if the choice is the narrative, and control its thematic through line?
If you take the above quandaries into account, you would more than likely get the sophomore season of Fallout's televised efforts. Nothing short of a joyous contradiction in terms, Fallout returns, continuing an enthusiastic blending of mediums, or should I call it a breaking down of barriers? Either way, this coming together of both the interactive and linear narrative structures is a charm-filled reminder that choice is important, but narrative need not suffer because of it. I'm not saying that choice, in and of itself causes narrative failure. It certainly does not. Fallout’s televised endeavors demonstrate as much. Fallout, in its own unique way, finds a happy medium between mediums. Bringing to the fore a wonderful narrative of autonomy, full of tremendous depth, life and heartfelt adventure.
In particular, the second season of Fallout re-engages with Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul by way of hope, and the possibility of change. Now hope, in the context of Fallout’s wasteland, can be a synonym for many things. Not the least of which being the hope of surviving another day or becoming a well liked, living, yet still rotting corpse. Hope then, is not a shallow forgetting of reality, but a constant reminder of possibility, and chance to find the good in things.
In Fallout's second season, an infectious air of charm, wit and drama enthusiastically weaves a path through the many possibilities and permutations of the wasteland. Granting Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul the possibility of meaningful growth throughout their multitudinous adventures. Showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, along their team, reenter the wasteland with our three protagonists. Allowing us to see that choice is a great gift. Though that gift exists within the autonomy of Hope. Not in the perceived good of an already compromised system. In essence, a broken world can only change, if we change first. The choice is yours…

Rated TV-MA violence, gore, and some strong language

I found Fallout season 2 to be thematically rich, insightfully charming and satirically entertaining. I hope in some way you do too.

Fallout season 2 can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video with a subscription.
