Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)
Jurassic World Rebirth
"No one cares about these animals anymore, they deserve better.""One, two, three, coordinates. Go!"
"What do we do now?"
-Jurassic World Rebirth
Imagine a world where dinosaurs have become routine. A world where these prehistoric creatures have become nothing more than sideshow novelties or expressions of corporate greed. To some this reality does not require imagination. To some, it's just the Jurassic film franchise on any given day.
Though, if this sentiment is indeed true, then Jurassic Park Rebirth has achieved something remarkable. What is the phrase, "Life finds a way." The seventh Jurassic film brings us back to the beginning. Not chronologically of course, but back to a time where these marvels of creation are just that, marvels.
Jurassic World Rebirth takes away the artifice and places these dinosaurs in nature. Now that's not to say that there isn't any tampering with reality, there certainly is. It is a Jurassic film after all, and scientific overreach is never far behind. Though this film wonderfully reminds us that dinosaurs were indeed real flesh and blood animals, no matter how disillusioned we have become from that fact. The majesty and wonder of dinosaurs is present, and accounted for here.
As a meaningful byproduct of artful simplicity, Jurassic World Rebirth succeeds on many levels, not the least of which being the human story. When all is said and done it may be simple, but that simplicity still elevates it to heights of emotional depth and poignancy. Which in turn, skillfully ties together the human dilemma, with the dignity of the giants of prehistory.
Jurassic World Rebirth is a quintessential example of care when it comes to excavating its central themes of belonging, grief and guilt. In a way Rebirth gives the dinosaurs a meaningful purpose for existence, justifying their reemergence on our modern stage. The film metaphorically gives the dinosaurs a voice, granting them a say in our survival, as the human race. Though what we do with the gift they give us is, as always, up to us. Director Gareth Edwards and his team call us back to the heart of our dinosaur fixation. Allowing us to once again appreciate that, these creatures roamed the earth and, we are better off for it.
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence/action, bloody images, some suggestive references, language and a drug reference.
I found Jurassic World Rebirth to be visually enthralling, impactfully entertaining and thematically meaningful. I hope in some way you do too.
Jurassic World Rebirth is currently in theaters.
