Win or Lose 2025 Miniseries
Win or Lose
“You want to unpack that? We should unpack that right now.”“It's never been about being the best, it's about trying your best.”
“Then a meteor heading straight towards Earth, oh no! It's going to hit the softball game. What do we do?"
“Just relax and let the game come to you.”
-Win or Lose
Win or Lose is a microcosm of charm, delight and human struggle as only Pixar animation can render it. With a young co-ed softball team as its abiding center Win or Lose effortlessly translates the ever-present Pixar charm to episodic storytelling. Jumping from player to player and beyond, each episode encapsulates how each of us deals with this world we inhabit. The series is a thoughtfully insightful deep dive into the nuances of our personal coping mechanisms, and how we deal with our day-to-day struggles. From a delightfully enthusiastic sentient bead of sweat, to a 5-year-old's richly charming hand-drawn-esque imagination, Pixar's knack for playfully thematic metaphor is present and accounted for here. Series creators Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, with their team, show us that life may throw us curveballs. Though Win or Lose, life is a game well worth playing, no matter the outcome.
By its nature, Win or Lose is a gateway into lively dinner table discussion, Its TV-PG rating is less about the show 's content, and more about family viewership. This series opens many avenues of engaging emotional storytelling worthy of breaking down together. The topics explored range from, divorce, bullying, peer pressure, parental expectations and more besides. The show does an excellent job of exploring the many challenges facing both sides of the parent-child dynamic, dignifying both, without lessening the importance of one or the other.
That said, Win or Lose may not be suitable for kids younger than 12. As I alluded to, the topics explored here are rather hard-hitting at points. Though if your younger crowd has seen Inside Out 2, they may be able to handle what this series has to offer them. Either way Pixar's first foray into episodic television is delightfully successful.
Rated TV-PG for strong thematic elements.
I found Win or Lose to be enthusiastically entertaining, insightful and meaningful. I hope in some way you do too.
