Risen 2016
Risen
“Have you come far?”“All that for peace, Is there no other way?
“You look for something you'll never find Tribune. You look for the wrong thing.”
-Risen
Built on the unknown, Risen is effectively the story of The Resurrection as seen through the eyes of a criminal investigator. It is a murder mystery told in reverse. The film eloquently conveys the power of the moment to forever alter our perspective. Taking this idea of powerful change and applying it over time Risen demonstrates the true nature of change, that of a continual journey throughout life. The power of a moment is not housed in a singular instance of time. These moments reverberate through the rest of our lives.
Risen is a powerfully concise, and sharply lavish examination of The Resurrection, the moment that changed the world forever. One of the most intuitive elements of the film is hitting me now, as I write, and who am I to say that it wasn't intentional. It most likely was, given how Risen begins. Director Kevin Reynolds and his team beautifully entrust us with a profound truth. Death is not the end, it is only the beginning.
Rated PG-13 for Biblical violence including some disturbing images
I found Risen to be visually striking, eloquently designed, meaningful and thought-provoking. I hope in some way you do too.
Risen can be purchased on any digital video streaming service. It is also available physically on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD disc.
